Feed Schedule
WINTER 2008
If all 3 horses are turned out together, they can have range of the turnouts and the winter pasture all day and night. They can all be fed together.
AM:
Divide 1/2 bale of hay 3 ways: 1 flake for the pony; divide the remainder into two piles. The horses will sort between these piles on their own.
J gets 2 pint rolled oats + 2 pint sweet feed + 1 scoop electrolytes in addition. No grain for the other 2 in the morning.
The cats stay inside the barn all day during the winter as I don’t want to leave the barn door open during the coldest weather. The two kittens will wander around while you do chores, but rattle a little food in their silver dish and they’ll come back inside. Audrey has the good sense to stay inside. If they don’t come back for you, leave the barn door ajar.
PM:
Divide 1/2 bale of hay 3 ways: 1 flake for the pony; divide the remainder into two piles. The horses will sort between these piles on their own. If the weather is exceptionally cold, they can all have more hay to share.
J gets 2 pint rolled oats + 2 pint sweet feed + 1 scoop electrolytes
Smoke gets 1 pint rolled oats.
Watch for a bit to be sure the pony doesn’t try to eat from their grain buckets. He should have no grain.
The pony may also be kept in the second turnout gated from the other horses as long as his water tank is not frozen.
Check both water tanks for ice.
Feed the cats at night: 2 of the silver tinfoil dishes from the food dispenser in the W.C. Check to make sure they haven’t knocked anything down against the propane heater in the tackroom. The barn door gets closed at night, just make sure all 3 cats are inside first.
If really storming, the horses can come in at night, but they do fine with extra hay outside and access to the shelters.

Cats:
- Check food and water once a day Audrey gets 1/4 cup of diet food out of the bucket in the stall. Kato’s food dish is up high in the extra shelving and her food is in the container in the rest room.
- Audrey has eye drops for her left eye that she needs once a day until the medicine is gone. Bottle is in the shelving across from the feed room.
- Be sure they are in the barn before closing up at night. They will come running when you rattle the food in their dishes.
- Hiro, the new kitten, is locked in the tack room during the day. He has separate food and water in there and a litterbox to be cleaned. He can be out in the barn at night with the other cats as long as the barn doors are closed to lock them in. (He is not yet vaccinated so can’t wander outside)
