of the fatty fatty ponies do I think is responsible for beaching this strange squid like creature in the paddock during nightly lock-in?

Obviously I should have pulled the tank heaters from the water tanks a few weeks ago, but I’d just unplugged them and let them float in the meantime. Someone took out their frustration at being locked away from the grass on this hapless red plastic creature. Hint: It is listing to the side because it was also stepped on.

Argh! A similar thing happens to me every spring. I have the types of de-icers that connect to the bottom side of the trough and the cord runs through the hole. As soon as it starts warming up, the horses drink more water faster, and if I don’t get out there to fill up the troughs twice a day, they will drink down to the de-icer. Then they rip it out of the trough wall and stomp on it. Don’t they know those things are expensive? You can’t train a horse to respect your money, that’s for sure.

We use sinker rings for our heaters, and usually don’t have too much trouble – although once I saw a horse stick a foot into the water tank, paw, catch the ring on a foot and heave it into the pasture! The ring survived and the horse was fine as well. Some horses are just playful!

I fear you’ll never know who did it. No one is going to fess up to that.
