Tia is currently available for adoption at the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue. “Foaled in 1990, Tia is a beautiful bay, purebred Arabian mare (Bask breeding); 15.1 hands, gentle, friendly and sensible mare. Has had some round pen work and is ready to be started under saddle.”
The Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue is taking a page from the Mustang Challenge and starting a Trainer’s Challenge for some of their current horses awaiting adoption: The Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse. This sounds like a great idea. Foster and train a horse for 100 days. Compete for a $4000.00 first prize. Turn an unwanted, untrained horse into an adoptable horse with skills and savvy. Horses will be evaluated on basic skills such as standing for the farrier, loading & unloading from the trailer as well as basic ring and trail training.
Brilliant. More details are available here.

GOOD IDEA!! Wow, I’ll be making sure other rescues see this. Wish I was closer…
Great prize too, that’ll bring people out for sure. Can’t wait to see how this goes, keep posting about it. My BIL is doing the Extreme Mustang Makeover and picks up his horse in 2 weeks. I’ll be covering that, but I sure am jealous. I want to do it too! I suppose I could just finish one of my own that needs it, lol.

This looks like an awesome challenge. It would be fun to do it, but I am in the same position as Mikey–too many of my own that need finishing…or in the case of some…starting-LOL.
Please keep us posted on this-it is definitely interesting.

Great idea! There are so many unusable horses for sale everywhere, and mostly due to lack of training. If trainers can save horses like this, what a wonderful thing that could be.

Tia has a gorgeous neck and throat latch. She should attract some attention.

I wish I were farther along with harness training Banderas and fixing J’s mounting walk offs. If I didn’t have my hands full with work and current ponies, I’d definitely consider taking another horse on for this summer program. Glad everybody thought it was as great of an idea as I do. I’ll keep you posted as the program develops.
Nuz Muz: isn’t Tia just gorgeous. I hope she finds a good home soon.
