Is anyone else addicted to virtual horse shopping? I’m not in the market for another horse but for years I’ve checked the on-line horse classified ads at a few sites just to window shop. I am not sure whether this helps channel my horse obsession into a harmless (read: no cost) avenue or whether I am playing fiddle with the devil and it’s just a matter of time.
Some horses are way out of my league and price range, so I like to search for either horses located within close proximity to me or horses under a certain dollar amount. Over the winter, I thought my resolve had grown as frequently I would search the ads and not even find a single horse to give me pause. Well, as we know, spring has sprung and the horses are back on the market.
With the success of Teddy O’Connor, pony / Thoroughbred crosses are coming out of the woodwork. Here’s my latest virtual obsession. I like everything about how he’s put together although wish his head were little smaller and more refined. This one is especially dangerous for me as he lives just one state away. Yikes.

Anyone else play these horse shopping games? Repeat after me: I do not need a new pony, I do not need a new pony, I do not need a new pony…

I do not shop online for horses or that matter anywhere for them unless I am in the market. I do check occasionally to see what prices are running for the caliber of horse I breed. BUT I have friends and a daughter who are virtual shoppers. I think it gets my friends in trouble from time to time. LOL Just this week one of them called me telling me about a broodmare that I “MUST buy.” (her words, not mine)
The last thing I need is another broodmare besides I’m really happy with the ones I have. With the market like it is, I’m thinking I might have to sell a couple and that’s the last thing I want to do. I sure wouldn’t take on a unknown producer at the expense of my blessed mares.
I had no clue what my friend was thinking UNTIL she told me SHE has always wanted a mare with this breeding. LOL

I am so totally addicted to dream horse!!! I love to shop. I pretend that I have bunches of $$$$ and can have any one I want. I think its OK. You know the best part is when I was horse shopping last year, I test rode a few and found that for now I have exactly the right horse at the right time in my life. But shopping is just plain fun

RR – I’m envious of your non-shopping willpower. Funny that your friend is trying to get you to shop for her. Maybe I should try this approach next.
Mikey & Jewel – glad I’m not alone!

Well, I can honestly say I don’t go shopping online for horses… but I do have another addiction at this point that could be just as damaging… I can’t stop buying horse books to add to my collection…
Sure, perhaps not as expensive as purchasing another horse but while online looking for horse related books I also stumbled across a new saddle blanket that would come in handy, some letter cones for teaching in arenas, a new helmut… you get the idea!

Christine – I *also* have this problem with the books and associated items. Dang the internet and its 24/7 shopping.
Photogchic – I’ll have to start tormenting DH with weekly Virtual Pony updates. He’ll be thrilled I’m sure.
